The Presidential Dollar creation was approved by Congress in December 2005 with George W. Bush signing the legislation into law. During each year from 2007-2016 there will be four different designs with a different Presidential Dollar being released. The program excludes all current and former living Presidents, therefore the list currently stands at 37. 

The coin features the motto "In God We Trust" in edged lettering which is the first time this has been done on U.S. coin and it also features the year of issue on the Rim. An example of this can be seen in the image above. The series ended in 2016, after honoring Ronald Reagan, the last President who was eligible. It is unknown if the program will be picked back up in the future.
